Hey all. I am buying a new boat (13 foot Sea Ray Laguna Fiberglass) and I need to figure out what kind of prop i need. Currently the boat has a hard PLASTIC 4 bladed prop on it. It is not fake. I would like a 3 bladed prop, and don't feel comfortable with a plastic prop. The boat probably weighs about 800-1000 lbs (very big guess) and apparently goes about 20-23 mph. Any suggestions? Also, looking for a prop thats not $60 +. (Im 15 :D) Thanks so much.

We need a whole lot more info.Check the stickys at the top of the page and the helps on the prop store page. need prop size (near the base of the blades or under the prop nut)
wot rpm and gps speed. Boat dry weight is 650 Its surely under powered so will need careful prop selection. Details of your typical load and activities.
A tinytach will work on many motors or perhaps an optical tach.

At the top of the page read "read this first"
I suggested some of the things in my post.
Keep in mind we are just fellow boaters trying to help out.
Nearly every prop question is posed with little or no real info.
You can imagine trying to pose all the questions on nerarly every post.
A prop selection is critical to the performance and health of your motor so needs to be accurate and followed up with performance and rpm and speed with the new prop.

Hey boatboy - I have a '93 Sea Ray Laguna 13 that has the 25 Merc on it as well, and the standard prop that I have is a Reco, part # 48-19640-13. It's a small 3-blade prop. If you take this info to a Mercury dealer, or do a search online, you can probably find one. Good luck and excellent purchase. These are very cool, rare boats.

Thanks for the reply. :D So now that I have someone that knows a bit on this boat, I have a couple of questions for you. 1.) How fast should it go? 2.) Does the Merc get fairly good gas mileage (for lack of better words) 3.) I have a 4 bladed prop. The engines had a hydrofoil thing installed, to put performance to the max. Should I stay with the current prop, which I believe is Composite, (looks like plastic) or should I change to something else? Thanks so much!

While I'm sure laguna fan can help you with info specific to your setup you seem bent on
narrowing your help to one individual rather than several individuals with probably 600 years combined experience and knowledge.
I can tell you that all 25 hp outboards use about 2.5 gph(gallons per hour) at wot(wide open throttle)Whether pushing a houseboat or a speedboat.Your mileage is determined by having the most speed for a given throttle setting. Also if your motor can make 6000 rpm (its max rating) with a 13" prop at 9% slip(a guess on the high side) should make around 34 mph. This does dissregard your exact weight and the weight of the boat and the shape of the hull. Could be more if light and fast. And an ideal setup.
While there is no doubt a foil will help your hole shot if it doesn't clear the water on plane it will slow the boat and it may handle strangely.
Also if it doesn't clear the water your setup may not be ideal.
The 4 blade prop will also help hole shot and stay on plane easier at reduced throttle
but usually is not ideal for max top speed.
Without a tach reading and speed by gps you really can't tell if the setup is right.
Right now you need a tach and someones gps more than a prop.

Hi Boatboy,

I have the Blackmax propeller you are looking that came off a 25hp mercury outboard a few years back. Part # is 48-19840-13 (10 3/8 x 13P). Has a few paint nicks and barely used with the factory sticker mark still on it. I can get it to you for $60 + a nominal fee for shipping. Email me if you are interested. I placed this on Craigslist, so I might get a few inquiries in the next day or two. Good luck

If you check the Mercury prop selector, you'll see that it recommends a 11 or 12 pitch for your boat; and says with a 11", it will do 5500 rpm @ 23 mph with a calculated weight of 1134 pounds.

If you put a 12" on it, expect 150-200 less rpm and a slight gain in speed.

The Solas 11" prop is on sale here for $57.59. It is arguably the best aluminum prop available for your motor.

Your plastic prop is likely a Comprop, as Piranha only lists 3 blade props for a 25 Merc.
