I am purchasing a bow mount trolling motor for my 16' tri-hull boat. I am considering the following two trolling motors:

Motorguide Energy EF54V: 24V, 54lbs, 42"
Motorguide Tracker Pro 40: 12V, 43lbs, 36"

The Tracker Pro is about $100 cheaper, but the EF54V is much more powerful. I am conserned about the voltage... 12V vs. 24V. Which is better? I know I will need another battery if I decide to get the 24V. Will it last longer? I've seen the EF54V also listed as 12V, which one would you get?

Thanks

Hello.
The voltage is not what counts,The amount of pounds of push it produces is what counts.
What counts even more is what YOU like to do with your boat.
I have a 16 footer and a 12 volt 42 pounds push troller suits me fine.
As far as the money is concerned. The 24 volt is really about a 160 dollars more because you must buy that second battery and unless you buy a 24 volt charger-another hundred or more-you will have to mess around with disconnecting them and charging them seperately or paralel and then reconnecting them to serial which does take time and has the potential for screw ups.
But hey it's your boat and you should do whatever makes you tick best.

Deeps,
I recently purchased a Minn Kota Powerdrive 12volt/50lb thrust/48" shaftfor 16ft tri-hull Sprint 255.It works great plenty of power.I did a lot of reseach before my purchase.MotorGuide is moving their operations to Mexico and I've heard they have been having troubles.I paid 354.99 at BassPro Shops.Lifetime warranty on the shaft and if you troll like I do that is important.I hope this helps.Model# is 50pd Item# is 28-594-422-00 in BassPro Shops.
Good Fishing
