i just purchased my first little boat, bought it for duck hunting as im tired of wading through muddy water, i have never bought a boat before, and there is not many places where i live to buy them, its a 12 foot crestliner flat bottom i believe its 36 inch wide, it says its rated for only 285pounds,????? that means i cant even take a fellow hunter with me, its that rated low?? how much weight can it hold and how big of a motor is suitable, there are no big lakes and places to use it mostly ponds, it says no more then 3hp engine, i just feel everything its rated for is very low could someone please give me some answers. thank you

No offense intended, but you're asking questions that Crestliner has already answered for you. The capacity and horsepower ratings are low because the boat is small. You have a 12' john boat. It's not designed to hold a lot of weight or be powered by much motor. It's designed to drag across levees into skinny water. No one on here is going to contradict the manufacturer's ratings, and anyone who does is being irresponsible and putting your safety at risk. If you're looking for answers regarding anything other than capacity and horsepower please straighten me out. Welcome to iboats.

An electric trolling motor will get you around a pond, or you might find a used 2 or 3 HP gasoline outboard motor. My Tanaka 3HP would work great, but I'm keeping it. Honda makes a real nice 2HP 4 stroke, centrifugal clutch, air cooled, weighs 27lbs., perfect for your duck hunting trips! Good Luck!

it is especially important to play it safe duck hunting, out away from help in the cold and dark. And your weight includes your gear and your heavy clothes, which can be significant above your nekkid weight. Go weigh 3 boxes of shells.

And if you got your limit of 15 snow geese you would be in big trouble!

All boats big and small have limitations; know them. And make friends with some skinny people (although I seldom see a skinny duck hunter!)
