Hello all, I have a 1986 125hp Force Outboard engine and I think I am pulling my hair out trying to get this thing running. I took apart the 2 carbs and cleaned them and checked the spark plugs. I bought a new squeeze bulb for the fuel line. I was able to get it to fire over and it lasted about 30 seconds. When I got the boat it has no books and no info on the switches and buttons in the cockpit. Does anyone have info on the cockpit devices on the 1986 Bayliner Bass and Ski boat? There is a little button just to the lower left of the steering wheel that I don't know what it is. Any ideas?

Pics??? The switches on the dash?? That one could be the trim switch. There might be a kill switch on the dash.A few pics will tell what you have.Could be the bildge pump too.I rigged a bunch of them but that was a long time ago.
If it runs for 30 seconds then quits. It could be the fuel pump diaphram.Next time see if it will run as long as you squeeze the ball.
Do a compression/spark test.Any inline connectors might be sucking air.J

Fill out the profile. You might be close to someone who can help.

Also just an FYI in case you didn't know; Pushing and holding the key in while turning it to start will activate the choke solenoid. Turning the key without pushing it in will not set the choke. You can tell if the choke is working by listening for the "click" when you push the key in or watching it in operation with the engine hood removed.

Worn fuel pump diaphragm is extremely common.

GIve the starter a pause to cool off between crankings. They get hot fast from over cranking.

All great advice, especially regarding using the starter - 20 seconds at a time max and let it cool off for a minute between attempts - these are not like car starters!!

Really does sound like the fuel pump diaphragm - when you squeeze the bulb you are pressurizing the fuel system which gets the engine to start - it runs for 30 seconds on the fuel pressure that you built up but then as the pump is not drawing more fuel it quits.

New diaphragm is about $3 which is likely the only part that you will need. 10 minutes to change out.

Re: 125 HP force engine

Hello all I found out the one at the lower left is the dead man switch. I disconnected it so I could test out the engine. Engine runs great now the main problem is the power trim not working at all. I tried to bypass the switches and fuse box buy ising a jumper wire from the neg side of batter to green wire of power trim motor and positive wire from battery to blue wire of trim motor. Nothing worked so now I guess the motor has to be either rebuilt or replaced. I have contacted many Marinas and Bayliner businesses and as soon as they hear of the year they quickly want to sell me a new boat instead of helping me. Does anyone know who I should contact in regards to the powertrim unit replacement parts? I tried to put pic of situation but it asks for URL of image. I don't have a URL it is on a memory SD card and saved now to my computer.

The motor is probably bad.The pump might be good. They sell the motor everywhere.Look on e-bay.
Can't find one send me a PM.I might have one. RRITT works on them.Look for one of his replys and contact him.J
