Before I buy this boat is there any problems with these outdrives and can you still get parts. The boat is a 18' renken with cuddy cabin.

I've got a Renkin 2000 cuddy with a (20') 2.3 omc and omc cobra outdrive. Aside from it being a bit underpowered I'm pleased with it. I've had no problem with finding parts for the outdrive (had gimbal and driveshaft replaced this summer) If it's in good shape for a good price I'd say take it

The stringer is a totally different beast that the Cobra, and even if you can get parts for a stringer, you may have a really hard time getting someone to work on one.
If the boat had a Cobra (regular Cobra, not King Cobra which are hard to get parts for) I'd consider it because all of the parts are still available.
The 94 and on Cobras are the same as a Volvo SX, and can be serviced at a Volvo shop.
I thing buying an OMC stringer drive is a poor bet, since even if you could repower with another drive, the whole transom has to be re-done.

Thanks for the advise. I bought a sportcraft instead. It is 21 foot long, has a 4.3 mercruiser engine and a alpha 1 outdrive.
