Hello all. I have a 76 silverline with a 165 I6 engine. havent pulled it apart yet but the lower unit seems to be seized up. the boat and interior is not best shape but engine is strong. i found a nice 1988 rinker with a bad 3.0 120hp engine i can get cheap. im wondering what the possibility is of swapping my engine into it. would my engine connect to the existing outdrive. see alot about gear ratios, maybe use my engine and upper with their lower unit? somewhat new to all of this so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jeff

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... The I-6 is considerably longer so the motor box probably won't fit anymore, but the motor will bolt up to the transom assembly,...

I think the PTO shaft length will be one thing you need to pay attention to. not a problem since you have all parts there to switch and swap.

Hopefully your upper is still good, if so that will be great. The 2 gear ratios are 1.98 -120-140 and 1.65 for your I-6. The lowers are 1.65 . The I-6 uppers are 1t01 ratio and have timing marks so that the gears will not make noise whe removed for service. I have seen 1.98 drives on I-6 engines but it puts a lot of extra stress on the lower with the high pitch propeller you will need . Also as said above pay attention to drive shaft length.

ok thanks. have worked on alot if vehicles but sort of new to the outdrives. will know more when i pull the lower off mine. was having shifting issues last year but boat ran good, now seems it is stuck in drive and even with cables disconnected cannot get the prop to turn by hand, and when checked oil lvl in the lower unit it was empty...so just trying to get some direction to get back on the water before winter hits...lol
