I have a 25" shaft 1995 120HP Force Model# H120422RX SN#OEO96788 that I would like to install on a 20" transom. The lower unit looks like it has an "extension" as opposed to a one piece leg. I checked in a Clymers service manual and this "extension" is not shown. I am wondering if this extension and possibly unseen drive/shift/water tube extensions could be removed to shorten shaft length to 20" (I have seen similar extension kits at www.baymfg.com) Has anyone had any experience with this?

Re: 120 HP Shaft Conversion

You would need to shorten the water tube, get a 20 inch drive shaft and a shorter shift linkage. I don't know where you can get these parts. Maybe you could find a jucker on E-Bay. A fixed Jack plate is another alternative to raise the motor to the proper heigth.

Like this:

web page

or from I-boats:

web page

Much cheaper and less work than trying to find parts to convert. Plus the 25" will be worth more upon resale...

Re: 120 HP Shaft Conversion

Thanks. I had considered the fixed jack plate. It will be the most cost effective way to go.
