What can anybody tell me about this moter? Any good, problems? I am looking at purchasing a 1984 Century Bronco 180 with this motor. The whole boat is super clean, just wondered if anybody had any comments, suggestions, hints, etc. This is my first venture into I/O.

that 2.5 is 110 to 120 hp motor, chevrolet built the long block, same motor they used in the nova back in the late 60'san early 70's. A good power package, but that boat is gonna be SLOW. you put 4 people in the boat an you not going to go skiing! Drive it before you buy it!

This is one of the most reliable units available. One of my boats is 1964 20 foot Fabuglas with this same power package. The engine came in 110 to 140 hp models.Mine is 120hp. I can pull up two adult skiers with four adults in the boat. This boat is not a lightweight either, it was well constructed, or it would not still be around. But it is NOT fast, top speed is about 35mph.

Re: 120 hp Mercruiser (2.5L, 153 CU IN)

Thanks for the replies. I was told that the boat would not be setting any speed records. Here is another question if anybody has time. The boat has been sitting (inside) since fall. The guy that has it swears AGAINST fogging. I live in Michigan as does the boat. He services lots of boats and all seem to be in good shape. My question is, should I pull the plugs and shoot something into the cylinders before first start up (maybe mystery oil) so it is it not totally dry in there. Or, since it has only been sitting for 6 months should it be okay. Any suggestions?

I wouldn't get too bent about it either way. I would fogg it in the future, and it won't hurt anything to add some oil to the cylinders before you start it, just have some new plugs available
