120 HP force L-drive will not idle

Help please


Just bought a 1991 bayliner with 120hp L drive Force. it runs wonderful out of the water and wide open in the water. problem is it will not idle. other than the carburetor what could it be. could it be mixed to rich. this boat has no trouble starting just will not stay started sometimes it will idle but when u go to put it gear it goes dead. hoping someone can help

You have a tach?To start: the idle in the drive should be about 1100 rpm.
The air screws on the carb.Turn it to just LIGHTLY seated.Then out 1 and 1/8 turn and leave alone.
Then in the water.Warm and in gear.Air screws in till the motor just bucks,kicks,coughs.Then out 1/2 turn.The idle should be 750-800rpm.
You do a compression/spark test? Then check for water in the fuel.J
