A few weeks ago I picked up a 70's model 120 chrysler pretty darn cheap. The seller said he took it off the boat because it cracked the transom. Since then he said he was selling it cheap because it wouldnt start. After a few hours of messing around with the common troubleshooting i realized that the switch did not have a wire connected to the ignition terminal. And yes it fired right up after a couple of backfires. Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) with the chrysler motors. I am rebuilding a boat right now and it is a great size but it is going to take some steering\transom modifications to install the motor and if it is not worth it then i will move on. Any comments would be great.

Most parts are getting difficult to come by, and ones that are available are getting more expensive all the time.

If it were me, I'd tune and service that puppy up and runner till she drops. Or untill something I thought was better came along. I've past up some good deals because it was a Chrysler. I've never owned one, but I worked on a few. Personaly I don't see whats so bad about them. I don,t think I'll be passing any more up. That price of pretty darn cheep is my kind of price. The only draw back is you won't get much out of it if you sell it.

Yep, throw a couple hundred more at it and run it till it blows. You will probably get tired of looking at it before that happens.

i'll agree, i have a 105hp chrysler and have had only minor problems, and parts are hard to find but with a little engineering experience any hard to find parts can always be made/modified. The only thing is the transom mods, if tou have to spend a lot of time/money it may not be worth the hassle.

The toughest part of this swap is going to be the steering tube that needs to be made and attached to transom. I have checked almost everywhere for someone who makes a steering tube kit,, cant find it. If anyone has some advice it would be appreciated. Thanks

Force, formerly Chrysler, still use the steering tubes. There must be used ones around. Keep up the restorations.
