I have a 12 foot aluminum that has the threaded drain plug hole in the floor, I am unable to put a new plug in as the threads on the housing are stripped, I would like to plug this hole and install a transom plug but I am unsure of what to use to plug the old hole with. If I filled it with JB Weld would this adhere enough to plug the hole permanently? I have tried rubber plugs but they keep popping out because they wont go down in the hole far enough to bite because of the plate on the bottom.

Lowes may have it. I buy mine at Home Depot and Wal-mart, it's in the adhesives section of the paint dept at both places.

Our 14' aluminum boat had a plug that wouldn't seal, although the plug would screw in a bit. (It just leaked terribly.) I JB-Welded the plug in, and it has held just fine.

Couldnt find the loc-tite but i managed to pick up the lepage marine epoxy, hopefully it will work just as well. I thought about the jb weld but I would have to fill the complete hole with it as I dont have any plug to put in it and wasnt sure if it would hold, im not sore about the flexibility.

Why not just a rubber plug thats removable? another idea would be to re-tap it, if you have the tools. Permanently putting in is exactly that. If you're OK with it great, but could hurt resale possibly. -Joe

If you don't have a threaded plug, the plumbing dept at any home improvement store does. Even if the threads are stripped, JB welding the new plug in is a far better solution than trying to fill the hole with an epoxy type product that will not expand and contract at the same rate as the hull. With the plug, the only thing JB weld has to do is fill the little voids created by the damaged threads. You will never have to worry about it coming out.
