Hi all,
Wonder if you might jhave the knowledge I need regarding a 12 ft aluminum alumacraft I'm looking to buy. I need some information re: max horsepower as would appear on the capacity plates.
It's probably from the late 60's to the late 70's. No capacity plates are anywhere in the boat, and I can't find the serial number or hull id numbers as the inside has been painted with a textured anti slip plate. Even the transom knee is painted.
Reason I need this information is that the seller is selling it with a Mercury 20hp outboard, and I fear that this exceeds the max horsepower rating it was intended for. I've been in 12 ft aluminum boats with 10 and 15 horse, but am not sure of 20 and have never seen. Seller claims that the tag did say 20 hp when his father owned it before him, but there doesn't seem a way to identify it. Alumacraft can't identify the boat without the serial numbers, and they may be beneath that rubberized anti slip coating.
Has Alumacraft made a 12 ft boat during this period that was rated for up to 20 hp? It's essentially the same boat that River - Runner has pics on these forums of, with the same oval decal on the sides.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
