What should my amps be on my rectifier? I ordered a new rectifier from two different companies with the part number that specifies on Marine engine dot-com and other sites. I found the numbers listed in the catalog as well and i order the part but they will not work. I believe they are not the correct amps. the book from my motor says its a 6 amps system and rectifier but I cannot find the information on the rectifier on the sites that sell them. they do not list the amps so I'm not sure what I need and where to find it without buying a third rectifier that's the wrong amps. They cause the motor to do weird things. When I install the wrong rectifier it causes the motor to act like it's has a limiter installed. It can't get to WOT. Install the old one with cracked wires and it takes off perfectly. Repeat process same results.

First, are you sure you have a rectifier/regulator, or just the standard unregulated rectifier? The CDI numbers are 153-3408 for the unregulated one and 193-3408 for the regulated one. As far as I know, the 1973 were all unregulated 6A alternators from the factory. I'm really at a loss as to why any of them are acting as rev limiters. Anybody else?

You can use a $5.00 rectifier from radio shack on those motors.

​Amp rating is not an issue with any of the stock style rectifiers.

I ordered the regulated rectifier from CDI to install on this motor the rectifier that is on the motor right now is the original rectifier that came with the motor from 1973. All other electronics are aftermarket CDI installed a couple weeks back by me they are all the correct parts I have the catalog for my motor. I'm also a mechanic myself I work in automotive industry on robotics so I'm not incompetent I'm just not an outboard mechanic. Pics to come later
