Nice engine. The old V-4's were work horses, and virtually bulletproof. You need to find your exact model and serial number written on a metal tag mounted somewhere on the engine or mount. The number can sometimes be found on a welsh plug as well. You need to find a schematic diagram (with part numbers) for your exact engine. If I BOATS does not have it, Google Johnson Outboard Parts and you will find exploded views of your lower unit. These diagrams will show every seal you will need...along with the part numbers. Of course, check with I BOATS for availability first. We owe this fantastic website at least that much. You may find exactly what you need in one kit...if you are lucky.

The very same scenario for the water pump kit too. In my humble opinion, as long as you are doing it, go ahead and buy a new water pump kit...if available. It will come with a new housing, impeller, impeller key, and all seals needed to complete the job. So much easier, and it may save you an additional trip to the parts house on a Sunday afternoon (which would be my luck)

Unfortunately, factory gearcase seal kits started with the 1978 and up cases. (5006373.) Does not apply to the 77 cases.

You can order the seals individually from a Bombardier/Evinrude dealer, based upon the factory exploded parts diagrams at: epc.brp.com. Supply the dealer with the original part numbers and they will order the correct (original or superceded) numbers for you.
