115 Yamaha overheating

I got a early 90 yamaha and it"s overheating at a Idel. The water pump is peeing , but no water to the heads. Whats the best cure?

sounds like something is blocking the water tube...possibly a piece of the impeller...first step is to pull the lower unit and check impeller condition..let us know ! :cool:

Pull your thermostat and see if its sticking closed. While you have it out crank up the engine on muffs and you should get a good geyser coming out of the thermostat hole. Does it overheat at speed or did you not run it to find out? Some outboards will pee fine with a stuck thermostat, it depends on where the pee line is relative to the cooling system. Heat up the thermostat in a pot of water and check the opening temp with a cooking thermometer. If this doesn't help you need to pull the lower unit and replace the water pump.
