I have an 85 115 V4. Could someone tell me which other model years have the same lower unit? Also, how do I tell if I have a 20 or 25 inch by measurung the distance from the water pump wear plate to the top of the shaft?
Thanks

Re: 115 yamaha lower unit

An 85 is almost certainly a 20". Shaft size is a bad misnomer. It's actually the height of the transom, not the length of the shaft. Shortshaft models fit 15" transoms, longshaft 20", extralongshaft 25". Yours would probably be considered a longshaft.

Measure between the bottom of the transom clamp to the antiventilation plate on the gearcase. It should be in the neighborhood of 20".

I'm pretty sure 115 and 130 gearcases are interchangeable. What years I dunno.

Thanks for the info, I still need to know what years are the same. Anyone?

Basically, all of the V-4 gear cases are interchangable. By raising the engine to compensate for the difference in heights of the gearcases and proping for the gear ratio, you can install any of the 2.6 gear cases.

I am sure that the units can be modified by changing shafts etc. But what years are the units the same. What model years v4s lower units identical? To a 1985?
thanks
