Well I have a 1977 Mark Twain Boat, with a 1982 115 Evinrude, recently new to me. Tach was not hooked up, just a wire that dead ended. I have run a new signal wire from the block on the starboard side of the motor 3rd post to the signal post on the back of the tach (thanks to the info I previously found on iboats!) The tach ground appears to be ok, i tested with test light and it works. The only other thing on the back is the adjustment setting screw....It is now set on #1 from what I can see. Can anyone tell me if this is right or should I just try it and adjust if neccesary? I'm afraid if it's on the wrong setting I may fry it? It is a Meallion tach it made in the USA. The adjustment settings are 1, 2, 3, 4, Anyone tell me which one I need it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

I think it gets set to #4. You cannot hurt anything by trying different positions.

So I tried it...It worked for a bit....on the # 1 setting, adjusted it up to 2 or 3 souldn't see to well under the dash. And it peg on 6000rpm while idleing, ok so I adjust it back to #1 and it comes down to 2000. And I take off to wot and it dosen't move.....check connections....nothing???? Any ideas?????

My Johnson V4 110 is set to number 6 on the back of the tach but it's a 1988 model. Not sure if all V4s are the same but are you sure there are only numbers 1-2-3-4 on the tach?

Re: 115 Tach Info

I just went and pulled the tach out of the dash so I could get a good look. Yes it has the numbers 1,2,3,4 in a semi-circle under the nylon setting screw. Looks like it was set on 4 and that I possibly turned it further to like what "would be" 5 0r 6.... In other words if it were a clock face positon 1 is like 4:30, Position 2 is like 5:30, Position 3 like 6:30, Position 4 like 7:30. And I had turned it to like 9:eek:o position. Ok can I probably made that really confusing. So I'm going to reset to the #4 and reinstall and see what happens. Anyone got any Ideas?????
