115 SPL Overheat alarm comes on after 5 minutes idling?

On my 1998 115 SPL the overheat alarm goes off after about 5 minutes of idling while I'm still in the no-wake zone. The water pump is working properly and a good hard stream from the motor. I unplug the horn and wait another 5 minutes, plug it back in, and never hear from it again. Any ideas?

YOU WILL NEED TO CHECK CYLINDER TEMP TO SEE OF YOU ARE OVERHEATING OR BAD HORN.RAYTECH MAKES A GOOD TEMP GUN.

Don't assume that water is circulating through the engine when the pisser is flowing. When was the last time you replaced the water pump & t-stats?

The water pump is new, haven't checked the thermostats. I really don't think the engine is hot at all but I'll try to check the temp next time this happens. Just strange that this happens while idling out of the harbor and never happens again all day. Perhaps the thermostats are sticking and once free they're fine the remainder of the day.
