I recently rebuilt this motor and just about completed the 10 hour break-in period. it has now started to overheat. it only overheats when planed out, at idle it is fine. i removed the thermostats and poppets to see it there was a problem there and it still overheats. when i rebuilt this motor i cleaned and flushed all parts and passages really well. one thing is when i test the head temperatures with the IR gun i am getting about a 15 to 20 degree difference. the port head is running hotter. temps are around 130 + 145 at idle and 155 + 175 while planed out. before it eventually overheats. any ideas on what may be causing this? also even though i now am not running the extra oil in the gas for the break-in. just the oil in the vro, the motor smokes extremely bad at idle. Is this a sign the vro is shot ?

water pump. When you had the engine apart, you didn't remove any items in the water jackets that like like little hoses or plugs jammed in?

no, the engine has ran fine for about 10 hours since the rebuild with no overheating until now. what about the diiference in head temps, it that normal ?
