motor isnt idling too good did a little insection befor coming into work tonight and noticed a cracked hose on the bottom carb. Its a little rubber hose that runs from one side of the carb over the top to the other side. What is this and where can i get a good manual for this motor? Could this hose be causing my poor idle issues:mad:

That is part of what they called the " back drag " system.-------It leaned out the mixture at higher RPM.------Start with a compression test.----Then check to make sure you have spark at all 6 leads.--Will the spark jump a gap of 7/16" or more --yes or no should be your answer here.

Many people plug those hoses because the lean condition it can lead to detonation and burnt pistons/rings.

Racerone I have close to 120 on each cylinder and good spark. Will be adjusting carbs as prescribed on here. I suspect it to be clogged low speed jets. Thanks Faztbullet. I plan to block them off anyway.

Welcome to iboats!

I have blocked those lines in the past with a bb inserted into the hose ;)

When was the last time the carbs were really taken apart, cleaned and re-installed? That is a worthwhile job.

Once you get the carbs cleaned then I would do a de-carb then follow this procedure http://forums.iboats.com/engine-fre...q/timing-sync-merc-inlines-1988-a-168855.html
