I got myself a 1994 Boston Whaler Rage 15 115 Jet Drive. I got the boat for a good deal cause the engine got damage and most people don't like the problem that this type of boat give them. Myself I do believe that the Rage is a good boat if use the right way by it operator. That said, I'm looking to replace the power head with a new drop in ready to bolt on. This boat have a Turbojet in it. My Question is, is there new power head out there that would fix the Turbojet braket? Had anyone out there ever replace the 115 power head with something else? Moe

Any Johnson/Evinrude V4 crossflow engine from 1979 through 1997 will work. Some V6 crossflow motors will also work but you would have to raise the top of the engine compartment.

I would not use anything less than the 115HP as rated from 1985 up.

Use the forum search feature for other information, search "TurboJet".

You may find more useful information on the Boston Whaler site using their search feature: http://continuouswave.com/

Look at the way the cables hook to the motor and the linkages. Some TJs use a boss on the starboard side lower pan mount. If your TJ uses that type linkage then you'll need a powerhead with that boss or one with material so that boss can be machined. Other than that the V4 crossflow outboard powerhead is pretty much the same. Some mounting bosses for electrical components are different from year to year. You'll need to look at the bosses yours uses and match one up. The V6 crossflow will not bolt up without changing the adaptor plate.

If I wanted to replace it with a V6 crossflow, could I purchase a factury rebuild full dress ready to drop in??? And are the adaptor plate for the V6 still available? The 115 are really under power for that boat.

Also THANK"S for taking the time to answer my question.

You'd have to see if the adaptor plate from a V6 would work on the Turbo Jet. Since there were no V6 TJs I would assume it would not bolt up. Now having said that, you might be able to fabricate something. After all, we build race motors with OMC powerheads, Yamaha ignition and Merc gearcases. I have a feeling you'd be unhappy with the results since we are talking about a jet.

I'm a Ex Hydroplane racer myself, did it for over twenty years. However all my mechanic experience are with inboard engine and very limited with two strock outboard. However I know a bit about all the problem people had with these Rage 15 and that the 115 is way under power for that boat. The heating problem that most people had was due by pluging the jet with sea weed, sand and any other type of water debri.

I really got this boat as a work projet, my plan is to install some sort of V6 175 to 200 hp, rising the hood is not a problem for me, building some sort of adaptor plate is also a possibility. But before doing all that I was looking to see if someone out there had already did this. And also see what type and brand of power head would be best to use, or if there some sort of available
upgrade out there. If not, well I will just build my own. But first I look at any information I can receive on the matter.

Merc used some V6 powerheads in their Sport Jet. The biggest was a 240 EFI I believe.

Wow 240 EFI now that would push that 15 footer at a very fast clip, would probabily have to add a set of K Plane for stability. It would be fun for me, but would really limit who I would let drive it. I'm thinking more like the 175 Merc would do a good all around job.

Where would I start to look for one of those? Are these 175 Merc 2 strock
or four? You see weight would also be an issue on the Rage 15.

Thank's again for your infor, much appreciated. Moe:)

As you probably know, in 1997-1998 Rage had a Merc 175 jet installed instead of the omc 115 Turbojet. I never heard too much high praise for those either.

There were some conversions done to outboards; search "rage conversion".

No I didn't know that Boston Whaler made that line in 97 and 98, I was told they only made thenm for three years, 94, 95 and 96. There was the Rage 15 and Rage 18. Was the Merc 175 Sport Jet install in the 15 or just the 18?

Thank's for the infor, I will look up the conversion out of curiosity, but I'm looking to keep the Turbojet and repower it with a higher HP 175 to 220.
