115 HP EFI blows fuse when starting

I have a ~2004 115 four stroke HP EFI Mercury outboard. When the engine is cold it starts right up-no problem. After it runs for awhile, if I shut it down and attempt to restart it, the 20 amp fuse (main, tilt and trim) blows. It doesn't blow until I attempt to engage the starter, (everything is OK when ignition is only in the On position).

After I allow the engine to sit and cool down for awhile, it'll start right up fine again. This happens even when I'm just sitting in the berth and the boat isn't going anywhere. Any ideas on what may be going on?
Thanks

Re: 115 HP EFI blows fuse when starting

I dont have a whole lot of experience, but I would say make sure all your wires are grounded properly. Ive fixed a couple problems that all traced back to the ground. My trim would only work every 10th time I tried it, and it came back to a ground barely hanging on. Same on my starter. It wouldnt turn and it was because my buddy didn't ground it. Trailer lights act crazy and the ground was loose. MAIN FUSE was blowing everytime Id flip the lights on and after checking all of them, and getting it all grounded, I've never had a problem. I don't know if this is your problem, but if it was me, that would at least be my starting point. Im sure someone else will chime in and help you out more than I can
