1994 115 Evinrude at WOT the motor seems to lug down, but as soon as the front of the boat sets down...it takes off like a bat outta hell. I have tried to place it at different trim levels, but it doesnt seem to help. It cranks great, and runs great. But it does once in awhile act weird..yesterday I was slowly bumping the throttle forward, was in shallow water, before I knew it, I was at WOT but motor was not accellerating. Any ideas? Maybe timing?
Engine has New plugs, wires, ignition modules, carbs overhauled, choke solenoid.(It does have the Hydo stabilizers.)

You could have clogged up carbs and only the high speed jet is open on one or two. When were the carbs last removed and rebuilt? If you have garbage in the low speed side (easiest to get clogged up) that will have that type of effect.

Would that cause an idle issue? It idles fine. I hear a prop with too much pitch will cause this, but with a top speed of 40mph I didnt think it was the problem.

Carbs were off 2 weeks ago. (But it would do it once in awhile prior to removal.) They were removed because the plastic bowls were cracked and replaced with aluminum.

OK, What year motor, what pitch prop, what kid of boat? Check compression as well.

I had a Merc 1500 IL6 (only 99 Cu In) on a speed boat. It took all it's avail power to plane it, but once you hit plane it would accelerate very quickly. When pulling a skiier, if you did not cut throttle when you hit 3000RPM, it would hit 5000RPM (~50 MPH)in a couple of seconds and the skiier would get launched, by the sudden acceleration.

Chris
Its a 1994 Evinrude 115 V4. 1994 Ranger 17 foot. Not sure of compression, but I know it had a powerhead overhaul less than 50hrs ago. Not sure of the prop pitch? I looked, but couldntfind any numbers on it. Where are the numbers for a prop usuallu located?
And my boat basically does what your Mercury was doing. Once its on plane...It accelerates pretty quick.

I think a compression and spark test are still necessary to complete the evaluation. You may have a 19 or 12Pitch prop, which could inhibit hole shot. Numbers are usually stamped onto side of prop, but can be on front or rear of prop as well.

Thanks Chris. Guess I will have to bring it to a shop if I continue having this issue.
