Okay i geuss i got sucker on my forehead.I got screwed with the 140 and now with the 115.But i have a year warranty. He told me this was a 115 but when i checked the number on the block it turns out to be a 90 hp.could someone tell me how much diffrence will be in the 90 compared to a 115 ? Should i carry it back and complain ? He also had a evinrude 150 that he was rebuilding i could have got for 500 bucks more .Would it be too much for a 16'9 stratos ?

Sorry to hear you have had such a hard time. There is a noticable difference between a 90 and a 115 but not nearly as much as between a 90 and a 140! Is the 140 gone? Why not rebuild that?

You say there is a noticeable diffrence between a 90 and 115 but not a 90 and 140 ?About how much slower will the 90 be compared to the 115 on a 16'9 stratos ? That was my 2nd 140 and my boat is rated for a 115.

The mechanic i got it from said it had been bored . Would that make it a 115 ? He also used the Heads and the electrical off of my 140hp.

He also used the carbs off of my 140hp.So if someone would please clrify something for me.I just started thinking , ive been told by several people the only diffrence between the 90-115-140 is the fuel system , is this correct ? If so what hp would a 90 be if it had the carbs , heads that came off the 140 hp.Basically he used everything off my 140 exceot the powerhead and starter.Just curious what mine would be pushing as far as horse power ?

I believe the cylinder ports are larger and the exhaust plenum is different as well, from 90 - 115. If you want to make that puppy bark, Dhadley's your man......Ask nice and he might appear!!

if you got 140 heads and carbs on your 90 your putting out a lot more HP than 90. 140 heads are higher compression. Is the exhaust cover flat or does it have a bubble. Did he put the 140 exhaust covers on. If so your probably close to 140 HP.. boring
cylinders changes nothing in 2 strokes.

The differences between cross flow 99.6 cid blocks for the 90 and 115 were minimal. Basically, the differences were: jetting, timing, WOT throttle setting, exhaust plate (bubble for 115).

The 140 had: different heads, cylinder port design plus the rest of above.

The 140 rating really stressed the 99.6 block. If run hard, the 140 could be troublesome.

On the other hand the 90's were nearly bulletproof and the 115's were right in between.

The commercial 100 hp.(cross-flow) engine was basically a 115 with a lower WOT setting, conservative timing and a V-6 gearcase.

Re: 115-90 hp evinrude

Thanks for the info!I really dont know what i got then . LOL , I got a 90hp block with 140 hp carbs and heads and eclectrical. He also took my plugs out which were ul77v and put the l77jc4 in . Will that be a problem . I know the 90 calls for th l77jc4 but the heads which came off 140 called for the ul77v.Could someone answer that for me? I do know when he changed them it seemed to run better.I am going right now to the river to try it out for the first time.

The UL77JC4's will work fine. I believe the others were surface gap.
