110hp V4 Rebuild?

1986---piston ring off, scored inside of cylinders:

mechanic recommending complete rebuild=$1600

Is it worth it? Fair Price? I payed $1300 boat motor trailer.

If you get a rebuild done by a qualified marine mechanic/machine shop your engine will last for many years. I had one of my 1987 110s rebuilt last year for $2,200.00. If you have the skills and time you could do the rebuild yourself except for the manchine shop work.

It is vital that you determine the cause of the failure or you will have it rebuilt again.

10 4 thanks for the reply, supposedly the piston rings have come off and messed up the inside of the cylinder. Not sure exactly....I will find out.

Also forgot one detail...the mechanic stated that it has been rebuilt before??
