My 1997 1100 Zxi runs fine except it kills batteries several times a season. It'll be running but after turning it off, the next start attempt even seconds later results in a no go, just the starter selenoid clicking. I see in the service manual there are charging specs for a "generator" but there is no other mention, eg how to troubleshoot or service it, of a "generator". The magneto is mentioned separately several times. Are the magneto and "generator" the same device? What could be preventing the "generator" from recharging my battery? I'm using a 20L-BS battery. If there is a generator to recharge the battery, how do I check to see if it is working? Thanks

Re: 1100 Zxi Battery/Magneto/Generator

The stator is what purduses the charge for running the ski and for charging the battery. It has multiple coils that supply charge for different functions of the ski. The stator is behind the front cover of the engine, the oil pump is mounted on it. It is hard to get at and you may have to remove the engine to replace it. You should be able to use an "all meter" and test ohms across pairs of wires. The wire harness should run back to the control box and you can test the leads there first. If you have an actual manual for that ski, it will tell you what the range should be for each set of wires. I have worked on a '95 ZXI 750 which is the odd year for the ZXI 750, other year 750 parts are interchangable.
