Hello,

I realize this is a frequently covered topic, but I did not find the solution in the discussion board. I have a 1971 100HP Hydro Electric Shift. 100ESL71C

Currently, the unit is stuck in forward at all times making boating a little difficult. I have the proper C grade LU oil, and I was wondering if anyone had advice?

Also, the "shift box" was frequently referred to and I am not aware of the location or purpose. Any and all advice is welcome

Thank you,
Dive Bird

Hi there dive bird. This topic has been covered extensively in the Johnson Evinrude board. Search for Hydro-Electric shift in that board and you will find detailed instructions on how to proceed. Good luck.

The "shift box" is part of the controls for that motor. Do you not have a three-button control unit? Did you acquire this outboard with no controls at all?

If so, you're going to need that. It's possible to rewire the thing to bypass that switch, but you'll need a service manual to sort it out.
