100 HP High RPM'S

I have a 1989 Mercury 100HP SN-C124177 that I am intermittently having trouble getting to full throttle. It will run up to 2800 to 3000 RPM's and no higher. It will do this sometimes for most of the day and then I get in and start the motor and everything works great.

I have talked with our local Mercury dealer and his first suggestion was to buy a new boat but then told me either the stator or switch box going bad.

I would like to get any suggestions or thoughts from this forum before I go any further.

So any input would be greatly appreciated.

http://www.cdielectronics.com/support/ Go here and you can test them but if this is an intermittent problem, may have to test both cold and hot and compare results. Could also possibly be a faulty temp sensor causing limp mode?
