10 HP Honda Propeller etc

Earlier I posted a query concerning vibration in my Honda 10 HP that I recently purchased used (it's early 1980's). I was advised that my prop may be out of balance. Is there a way I can check the balance by myself? It looks in pretty good shape, just a couple of very small nicks.
Also, since I do not have an operators manual, I am curious to know what the small rubber receptacle with a rubber cover might be. It is located on the outside, just below the cowl on the right side close to the shifting lever. I belive there's a red and black wire coming out of the back of it. If anyone has one of these motors I am real curious as to what it is.
Anyone know where I might pick up an owners manual? Tried Honda of Canada but no luck.
Thank You
Art

Hi 7-mile

They're nice little motors, I've one also. It vibrates as well, keeps me from needing a shoulder massage. The little plug is for running lights, I don't recall the power rating, but it would be about two bulbs.

I've a Seloc manual that covers all Honda engines, 1982 to 2000, or something. Useful, but not a replacement for a shop manual.

Best

David

Thanks Dave;
I was real curious about that electrical plug.
I made contact Friday with a Honda dealer here in New Brunswick. He says my serial number dictates that I have an 1978 BF100 10 HP.
I too picked up a Seloc manual but I could not find any reference to this plug. Maybe my 1978 would not be covered. Would sure love to lay my hands on an owners manual and shop manual.
Thanks for your help
Art

That plug is from the charge coil, Be aware that it's not regulated, but it will charge a battery .

Thanks Red;
I'm guessing by not being regulated that it will vary the amps and or voltage output in relation to the rpms that the motor is being run at?
Wouldn't this mean it would be no good for any lights but it would be OK for charging my fish finder battery only?
Is this a common marine receptacle so I might be able to pick up a plug and hook it up to a couple of jacks? These might sound like stupid questions but this is all new to me.
Thanks
Art

I bought a plug to fit it from a Honda dealer a few years ago. Should be able to rig up something with blade connectors. It's fused with I think a 5 amp. so you can experiment without causing any damage I would think.

You can get the plug from any Honda dealer. It has to terminals inside that you can hook wires to and run to the battery. It is fused and should be wired to your battery as a charge circuit. These motors should run with out any real vibration to them. If your motor has the shakes you should make sure that is mechanicly sound and tuned. Also, make sure that all the motor mounts are solid. The forward mount is usualy the worst. I am almost positive you can still get a factory shop manual from a Honda dealer if you need one, but we get spoiled with all our manuals on cd these days. good luck...

Thanks very much guys for all your input. I know a lot more now than before I posted my query. I'll have something to tinker with over the Winter as the boating season is all but finished here now except for the duck hunters.
Regards to all.
Art

Hi 7-mile

I would check again with someone else on that serial number. Mine was quoted as a 93 based on the last two digits of the serial number. But actually it was built between 84 and 86, with an in-service of 86. The story I received is that Honda would do a production run then sell them for a couple of years. There being no specific date codes in the serial number the only thing is the date it was registered for its warranty.

David
