1 hp motor?

hi i just got a 1 hp electric troling motor and i was wondering if it would do better than my minkota 30lb thrust? both are electic but the minkota has a biger prop but the 1hp feels like it spins faster but the things an antique and its all metal with aluminum prop no reverse you got to turn it around any thought on wich one will push harder ?

Perhaps this will help you. I can not take credit for this but with a few calculations you should be able to answer your own question.

We know that by definition one HP is 750 watts. If a trolling motor consumes 20 Amps at 24VDC to generate 50 lbs of thrust it consumes 480 watts in the process (Amps x Volts = Watts or AxV=P).

So it would be approximately 480/750 HP or 0.64 HP.

A 24V trolling motor system would consume 31.25 Amps to generate 1 HP regardless of the thrust it generates. That is:
750W/24V = 31.25 Amps. P/V=A

The greater the thrust generated at 1 HP the more efficient the motor is.

(I made up the numbers just for the example of the calculation so check the spec sheet for your trolling motor to see how much current it draws at the specified voltage to generate the specified thrust.)
