Hello I have been reading the forum and it seems that there is some good information here. I just bought a boat with a 1.8L sea drive and would like to find out what year and hp size the engine is? The Model # is 1.8 AHPHD and the Serial # is G1514220 could someone please help me with this so I can get the correct manual to repair this engine if needed.

 Thanks, Clayton

Re: 1.8L Sea Drive

When you find out the year try here for manuals:

http://www.theoutboardwizard.bizhosting.com/parts_service_and_owners_manuals.html

I have a pair of 1987 1.6L SeaDrives. The OMC manuals are a must for these units for the SeaDrive assembly. The motors are pretty much the same as the non SeaDrives. I have had mine for 10 years, have had both motors rebuilt and have had no problems at all with the SeaDrives.

The 1.8l sea drive was only made for three years.

Your model is a 140hp (110 cid) loop charged.

If you have trouble getting parts for it, try getting the part for a regular 1987 140hp 90 degree looper, model# 140txcu.

If you want to comparison shop for a manual, here is another site that has your model #. The service manual is $40.

http://ww3.kencook.com/evinrudejohnsonmanuals/index.cfm?fuseaction=models.main&year=1987&ID=77779

The 1.8 is the small bore looper. I would not be surprised if your powerhead has been changed to the 2.0 liter version.

Sea Drives were built under the Drive System banner at OMC and were not rated by horsepower but were very very close to their outboard cousins.

Thanks for the info I'm just tearing into the unit now and have to get rebuild kits for the tilt and steering cylinders. Do you have your oil injection system operational on your motor? If so does it perform properly? Mines been disconnected and I'm debating weather I should fix it or just mix the fuel.

Thanks for the reply, atleast i know the motor is the same year as the boat so it's hopefully the original motor that goes with the boat

Thank you for your response. How can I tell if the engine has been changed to a 2 liter?

Re: 1.8L Sea Drive

I had the VROs removed from my twin 1987 1.6L SeaDrives before I launched it the first time. I would not hesitate to buy a VRO equiped motor if new but not used. I know many swear by the VROs but not for me on a used motor.

Dhadley - I thought so to on the hp ratings for the SeaDrives - however my OMC shop manual indicates 110 hp for my 1987 1.6Ls. There is no hp on the cover decals.

Re: 1.8L Sea Drive

Well I went to my local used marine parts outlet shop and found a manual on my Sea Drive. What luck, so if any one needs info on a 1.8 2.7 or 3.6 Sea Drive I have the manual from OMC just for the formentioned engines, and it covers everything in great detail. I've already ordered lots of parts for it and hope to fishing by June. Thanks again for the Info, reading these forums is very educational and comical too
