0mc 5.7 cobra stalls but starts right back up

I have a 1989 OMC Cobra. The motor runs fine out of water. Took the boat out a couple weeks ago and after rocking a bit it started took bog and then stall, but started right up again. So I changed the fuel filter and carb filter. Took it out today and it was a little hesitant at first but ran ok. After taking on a bunch of waves it stalled out and wouldn't run over 5mph. it stalled a thousand times but each time it started back up after giving it a few minutes. I have put gas treatment in a few times with no sucess. The filters seemed ok when I changed them no sign of water. Maybe fuel pump?? Any idea what can be the problem. I would appreciate some feed back. Thanks Steve

STEVE howdy well take the floor cover off above your fuel tank and take the fuel line off the fuel tank and i'll bet its corroded up from age replace it and get a new fuel line and hose clamps as the new gas eats away the fitting and swells the fuel hose inside after a season i outta know do mine every year and fuel hose cheap so i have extra in boat on hand saves running to town lolo and i also put some thread tape on the threaded end of fuel hose fitting have a good one

Not the fuel pump, its a carb issue.
Most likely the float is to high or the needle and seat are leaking.

thanks for the help Randy J i replaced the the fuel line and took the boat out today. The boat ran good in the harbor about 1 mile but soon as i started to increase the throttle it started to hesitate at about 2800rpm and stall but started right up. Problem now was as soon as i tried to accellarate it would hesitate and stall right away so it was a long ride home at 2 miles an hour!!!!

Thanks for the help took the boat out today and it did the same thing. So i checked the carb and i did see a little bit of gas coming out of the rod going through the middle of the carb connected to the throttle cable. Iim new to boating so i really dont now to much about them.

You need to Replace the Carb!!!

It can maybe be rebuilt, but it will need to be done by a pro that can replace the seals in the shaft. Auto carbs do not have the same seals there. Use a Marine Carb Only!!
Do yourself a favor and just pony up the cash for a new or rebuilt one now. You run a high risk of fire when those leak like that. 500 bucks is not worth your life.
And it will run a lot better then also.
