It's a real easy fix. Use 10w-30 oil. Don't use synthetic oil. And periodically rev the engine up to reach operating temperature.

He is running regular 10-30 not syn.You can take the filler cap off and oil will run out were it has filled up with gas.I was thinking about buying one but im scared now, didnt know if this was just one case or if a problem for others? Thanks

Re: 08 tohatsu

I bet it is not a problem with the engine, it sounds more like an operator malfunction. Fuel dilution occurs when an engine cannot maintain operating temperature. Chances are he does a lot of idling in cold water. That's part of owning a 4-stroke. That's not to say that he couldn't have a problem with the engine...It's just a lot more likely that his operating habits are the problem. There are only a couple of things with the engine itself that could cause it and his dealer can check those things within two hours. So, it is more likely that the dealer does not believe that there is a problem rather than the dealer not being able to find a problem. Regardless, have your friend call Tohatsu directly if he thinks something is wrong.
