I have a 2007 135Hp Optimax (serial # 1B540173) outboard with 261 hours on it that's new to me as of this spring. I replaced the impeller on it and engaged the kill switch as I had to "bump" the key several times to line up the driveshaft splines. Halfway through doing that, a solid alarm started to sound whenever the key was turned on and that problem has continued. Took it to my marine mechanic and he said there's an open circuit fault (my recollection of what he said to me on the phone) caused by bumping the key with the kill switch engaged. He said he was in touch with some other Mercury technicians on a discussion forum and they were saying this is a known problem with that year of Optimax. Can anyone confirm that or has anyone experienced the same problem?
He says I now need my PCM replaced or repaired to fix the problem. I'm also wondering if there's a reliable PCU repair service that's recommended? I'd be shipping it from Canada.
Or maybe someone knows of another possible fix? Thanks in advance.
