Hello everyone, new to the site and need some help from your experience. Just bought a 07 2359 trophy with 5.7 2bl carb. Pumped about 20 liters of bad gas / water out of the tank , replaced fuel/water filter at a local merc shop along with general fluid changes motor oil leg oil . Shop mechanic took boat for sea trial and it ran great . I ran the boat for a short time to go from trailer to berth seemed great got up no problem . Went out with the wife today for the first real trip and fired up , idled perfect , putted out the river for a while and when I went to get up on plane to motor started to stutter and died out like it was not getting fuel. Then it had trouble starting . When home on the kicker which is tied to the main fuel supply. Will go back to the dealer next week when they open but would l really like some help before . Also then when I was back motor then stated and idled perfect again but didn t want to risk going back out as it was windy with strong current , sketchy with the kicker. thanks

if the tank was emptied the first time and its been left for a while water must be getting into the tank somehow!!!!!maybe time to scatter some talcom powder around if its rainwater getting in.

Thanks for the replies , was thinking to check fuel water sep. filter today , I would think the kicker , yamaha 9.9 high thrust , would run poor if it was water again though. i guess the kicker maybe is not as much of a strain on the fuel system ? The tank did have about half a tank of fuel when i put it in for the work. They removed fuel sender and used remote pump out to get 20 liters of bad water /gas which would have left a large amount of possible bad gas . They also put a additive in the fuel to help it burn trough . This entire process has taken place with in a month , but previous owner had boat sitting , used very little. I did fill the boat right up at the gas dock yesterday and as it filled up gas poured out through what I BELIEVE is the vent right at the top rim where you put fuel in. Is this strange ?

Well fuel water sep. filter was filled with mostly water. Going to try to pump out tank again , and put in a racor .Hope it was just missed water from the first try. Mechanic was pretty confident he pumped all the water out and is worried water is getting to the system . It is an 07 with the plastic tank so not that old and no smell of gas anywhere. Gas cap has no rubber gasket on the trophy 2359 do you think that much gas could get through there. Any other thoughts ?

The vent is vented out through the rim where the fuel goes into the boat just under the fuel cap , which is plastic and has no rubber gasket or seal. It is on top of the starboard gunnel and exposed to rain. No rain water pools around the cap but it would fall onto it and run off around the rim. I assumed it was a good seal. I thought it would be crazy for that much rain water to get in through there, but maybe not , it has be raining for almost all the 2 weeks it sat after being pumped out the first time. Also are you asking where it is vented at the tank it self, that I would have to check , not sure if the line has a bend or loop to stop water as it is almost impossible to see.
