06 f15 sputtering at 3/4 throttle.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help. I have an 06 f15 yamaha on my 1548 Grizzly allweld jon boat. Tiller driven and manual start. When I'm out by myself i cant get to full throttle, the motor starts to sputter or pop u could say. If I have someone else with me it doesn't happen. Is there some kind of rev limiter on the CDI? It seems if the boat is weight down it runs fine. it has a brand new carburetor on it from iboats. thanks again!

yes it has a rev limiter.
has anyone ever checked the max rpm at wot?

Well not really. the only way for me to get the rpms is for me to hook up my timming light to it then i gotta groung the motor to my trolling motor. its kind of a pain just to do it in my garage let alone out on the water. but it can hit the limiter at half to 3/4 throttle? i am a light guy and all my buddies are a lot bigger than me. Oh BTW ur the man that was fast!!!! thanks!

not fast just enjoying a refreshing beverage after a day of working on boats.
anyway the prop that yamaha shipped with the motor may not be the one you need for your hull.
thats why RPM is supposed to be checked at the predelivery inspection.

fast or not, I'm a car mechanic and i cant get responses that fast from my boss! any way i bought the boat used and it came with the motor. i guess as much as I don't want to I'll go out this weekend and test the rpms. i just have nightmares about my snap-on timing light going in the drink! u know what i mean? and how can i tell if the prop is goog for my hull? Thanks again!

I have read several posts over the years about "TINY TACHS" maybe you could rig one up to you motor. I run a 2009 T9.9 and definitely have no problem with rpm.
