Purchased boat used this year 3/17. 2 nd x on water had been out motoring around the lake, slowed down for a few minutes, accelerated and engined died. Wouldn't restart. Would make a sound had to b towed in. Had the boat worked on. 1st x out exact thing happened right off the bat. Back into shop. Mechanic tried to get it to repeat the problem. Only thing they could figure was the tachometer was blowing a fuse. Replaced the fuse, gave us a supply of fuses. Worked fine for a while. Have used the boat maybe 5 x and now right back to the same thing. Took the boat out tonight. Started fine. Rode over to the pier to pickup up hubby. Slowed the boat down. Motor died & would restart. Not a sound. Went thru 7 fuses. Blew everyone. No response from the motor... Had unplugged the tachometer so we know it's not that blowing the fuse.... any ideas???

The 20 amp fuse supplies power to every gauge and the motor thru the purple wire. If just the gray wire was removed from the Tach then its still getting power. Finding the issue will take some time. Could also be a frayed wire which is grounding out. Lets hope what ever is shorting out stays that way until the problem is found.

Leave the fuse out and use an ohm meter and measure between the purple wire on the gauge to ground. Your resistance should be high, if low there is a short. Then start removing the purple wires off the gauges on at a time and recheck
