I just bought a Nissan 18hp (2005) hold over from a local dealer about a month ago. They mounted it to my boat and proped it out with a 9p prop. My boat is a 16' Alweld flat bottom rivier jon. It has a all aluminum deck about half way back, a trolling motor on the front. In the back of the boat I have a 3 gallon gas tank, battery. It also has a 3/8 aluminum floor in it.

After they mounted the motor right on the tramsum, with me in the back (190lb) and my 2 boys laying on the deck (240lb) of the boat it would run about 22mph.

I just put a CMC power trim on the boat with a 5 1/2 set back. When I took the boat out with me in the back of it and my 2 boys plus one more laying on the deck (330 lb) it would plan out and flat run.

But.....

When me and my partner go fish a tourament thing get really weird.. He is about (285 lb) plus we have a cooler for a live well just slightly forward of center of the boat. He normally sits on the cooler while we are running. I have lost 5 mph?

We tried him moving farther forward to the front of the boat and it did not make any differance. But when he moved to the back of the boat the motor lost power and bogged down. Plus it just never acts like it will plane out?

At a loss???

As simple as pinching the fuel line with the cooler, trash in the fuel system or an electrical ignition problem.

Back in the 60's we had a customer with a new engine that brought it back three times because it kept stranding him 100 yards from the dock. We couln't find anything wrong with it each time. We told him to call us when he dropped into the water and we would meet him at the ramp to see it ourselves. He called, we rolled a tech to meet him. Here's what happened:

Engine started fine at the ramp, customers Grandmother gets in boat with her lawn chair, boat goes 100 yards and dies, tech scratches head, paddle back to dock, Granny gets out of boat, engine starts, tech runs boat for 20 minutes in circles, Granny gets back in boat, boat goes 100 yards and dies, tech looks at Granny as tool of Satan, tech then notices that Granny's lawn chair is on fuel line. Problem solved.

My gas tank is bran new the gas line is new and is right next to the motor. I did check it and the line is not pinched at all. Is there a chance theat the motor is mounted to high? The CMC does not have up/down settings if I put and 3" jack plate on the boat and mount the CMC to it will 8" set back be too far on a 16' jon boat?
What if I moved the battery to the front of the boat?

Check with your dealer about the mounting. They installed it, they are responsible to make sure they have correctly done it.
