05 90 hp Yamaha / whats the proper proceadure for topping off the trim& tilt system

Hi, i have a 04 90 HP Yamaha and would like to know the procedure of topping off the trim and tilt system. Was told to use auto trans fluid, is that right. I have done it years ago and i think it has to be done with the motor in the fully down position, is that right? Thanks, WHALER 78

your owners manual should give you that info, but I would think you would need to have it full up and supported while checking and filling.

You must do this with the motor up and locked down. I will remove the fill cap..and I use a turkey baster with a short piece of tubing and drain and suck as much out as I can. I refill using Dextron 3 ATF...

Thanks Rick, i wanted to check it because i have full motion but there is some crackling sounds when first raising it. Thought there may be air that needs to be bled. Is there a way to bleed air if that"s the case. Thanks
