I have a well worn 3 cyl 70 HP 1974 vintage that is currently .030 oversize. It is not badly scored but the pistons will slop around in their bores and it has little compression. BRP only has +.030 pistons but aftermarket has +.040 available.
Does a 1974 vintage 3 cyl 70 HP run well with .040 pistons properly installed. Any overheating or other problems develop.
If crank and rods are still serviceable I will look seriously at piston replacement if +.010 will clean up the bores.
I have a fine running 70 HP and this is a parts motor but is all together and has a solid lower unit and no broken parts.

Wisco is the only one I know that makes .040 piston for this engine. You will not have any problems as long as it is jetted correctly and new impeller/t-stats/ deflectors are installed.
