'04 SeaDoo Sportster 4Tec - supercharged or not?

Hello,
How do I tell if this 4Tec is supercharged? I've attached three pictures and tagged what I think might be the supercharger w/ a piece of yellow paper on the second & third pictures. View is looking into the engine hatch from the port side.

What is the 4-inch diameter black tube sticking up, open on the end? This tube sucks in air, but shouldn't there be an air filter attached at the open end? Thanks.

Well, the pics in that link are pretty clear. No supercharger on my Sportster. Oh well, it still flys!

Just curious how did you end up with a boat not knowing if it was SC'ed or not and having disconnected hoses?

I'm a bit of a newbie to SeaDoos. Bought this one off Craigs List two weeks ago. The female seller didn't English well and didn't seem to know a lot about the specs and claimed that it was a rebuilt supercharged motor. I pointed out that I didn't think it was supercharged and she sort of agreed after doing some googling. Anyway, I took it for a lengthy water test and it ran very well and it looked good overall. I offered her $4000, but she turned me down. A week later she gave me a call and countered at $4200. I stuck to $4000 and she gave in. I've been riding it a couple of hours a day every day since! (It's been in the 80s here on the east coast of FL, except for today!)

Any idea what that black intake tube sticking up is? Does an air filter affix to the end of that? I can't find a similar picture on-line or in the manual.

I gotcha, at that price you can't really lose. 80s?? It's been in the negative 10s here!

Sorry I don't but I would post the question in the 4tec section of seadooforum. I have a 4tec GTI right now and could take pics for you but it's in storage until spring (see previous line about -10).

yes that is the SC... the intake hose should have been attached to a plastic tube...

I would not leave that wide open like that, look for an aftermarket CAI for that boat.

Pale Rider, thanks. I had gotten some conflicting information but, yep, I was finally able to conclude that it is a SC, and what I tagged in the pic is the supercharger.

in the old days, the 185 hp SC`ers were red, and the 215`s were black.

contact "woody" here > PWC Performance if your looking for any performance parts or replacement parts for your boat.
BTW, I like those years! enjoy the boat!
I finished with a rehab on a 98 challenger twin 787, but I guess we are never really done...lol...

If this is really a 2004 sportster 4 tec it is NOT supercharged as they did not make a supercharged sportster in 04 they only had 155 hp engines in the 4 tec version there was also a left over 2 stroke model with a 951 in it.
Check the last 2 digits on your vin , this indicates the year, it will end in 04 if it is a 2004 model

Yes, that's correct. After more research, I learned that the original 155hp non-SC motor in my '04 Sportster was replaced w/ an allegedly rebuilt 4-Tec SCIC (from somewhere?). It looks a little bit like a hatchet job, but the motor is in their solidly and runs like a champ! So, it appears that I now have a custom '04 Sportster 4-Tec 215hp SCIC. The pics clearly show the SC.

check a few parts while your in there. The fuel pressure regulator for the Sc engines was 58psi, if memory serves. also check the part number on the ECU, there was also a piggy back knock sensor harness, quite a few differences between the several ecu`s.

Yes, thanks. These are the things I'm a bit concerned of w/ this unique installation. But, so far, no problems, and I've been running it hard!
