04 SeaDoo GTX clicks after key is removed?

When the key (either key - regular or training) is removed the engine compartment has a click that draws down the battery. Does anyone have any ideas? This happened about 2 weeks into our season. The Sea Doo turns on if the batters isn;t dead but we have been disconnecting the battery cable to keep the click from drawing it down.

Another interesting thing is once the battery cable is connected it does not click until the key is placed on even if the ignition isn't started.

If the key is turned off, nothing should be on. Same with reconnecting the battery, nothing should turn on or click when you reconnect it if the switch is turned off. I would suspect a bad solonoid of some sort, or a faulty ignition switch that isn't really "turning off".

my hour meter clicks for a minute or so after the key is turned of... some thin to look at? shouldnt be thatenough draw to kill a batt though....

you can also use a length of hose(garden or something hose) as a stethasope to isolate where the sound is coming from.

There is a mechanical hour meter on your 04 jet ski?!! My 98 Kawa hour meter is in the digital dash, but even so the hour meter shouldn't click when the engine isn't running.

the click you hear is the tops switch on the front of the engine it is supposed to do that. battery drain is common on those and if you are letting it sit for a long time you should disconnect it however if the battery is weak or low on water it will drain faster,, have it checked. one thing if it keeps clicking continuiously then that is not normal it should do it once when you attach the key and again when you unplug it.

Thanks for all the ideas.

I think we're going to address a possible faulty ignition system angle.

A mechanic at a local Sea Doo repair shop said it should only be about $150 to fix based on our description of what's happening . That - I can live with.

We just got our other ride back in the water at a cost much higher than that.

Hope this $$ bleeding stops soon.

Money I would rather be spending on fuel!

We burn up about 1000 gallons per boating season. So much for a fuel economic boat - doesn't matter because there isn't anything better than 75+ on the water going through a 2+ foot chop!:)

I know the feeling I spent $6801 on fuel last year but it was fun burning it.

So the final on this one comes to a total of $696 for some computer control module in the front of the Sea Doo. UGH - GASP - PUKE!!! The mechanic says this is the first time he has ever seen this one go. Let's hope he fixed it!

Total watercraft repairs for this year alone are now at $2696 with more to come because my other boat is still leaking drive oil. That is most likely a prop seal but again we may have a surprise coming.

one of my doo 4 tecs blew the front computer and the ecu computer,, at the same time,, I was letting my son use the ski so I have no idea what caused that issue however the ecu is over 800 and the front one was around 600 plus 1 hour labor to do a computer check on the rest of the systems and program a new key for the ecu to work,, so don't feel bad,,

I just bought a new ultra 250 supercharged ski and now it gets 4 miles to a gallon of premium fuel,, but it is a total blast to ride.
