Hit a stump. The prop is not damaged. The prop and the prop shaft do not turn under power. The prop and shaft do turn by hand. Any help? Thanks

Broken driveshaft probably right where it goes int the pinion gear NOT the most robust of lower units

Motor still pees water when started up, Wouldn't the drive shaft have to be turning to get water stream?

Sounds like the driveshaft is broken as suggested.----And yes the water pump would still turn if shaft is broken just above the pinion.

The waterpump is above where it's probably broke so the pump is still turning. The 15 hp uses the same lower unit as the 6/8/9.9 hp motors less than robust. It is easy to tell if it's broke remove the lower unit then remove the waterpump and take the driveshaft out and inspect it..

Any idea what years interchange or do they go by model or ser# on lower unit parts?

Post #5 tells how to remove the driveshaft, parts go by serial# on mercs.
Is there a bearing or gear that is pressed on the end of the driveshaft? There does not seem to be much info on removing the shaft. I have changed the water pump before but, never dug into the lower unit.

You want to take the water pump assembly off and pull on the driveshaft if it's broke it will pull right out.

To get the rest of the driveshaft out will I have to pull the prop shaft and all the guts out to replace the drive shaft with a new one?
