'02 Malibu with 350 MPI EFI sunk last year and owner just paid $7,200 to have it fixed. They had boat for 11 months and he just got it back and drove it for a week. Boat would not start and we found water in fuel. Removed that, cleaned injectors, fuel rails, and replaced cap and rotor. Would not start, had spark, and unplugged fuel injectors and turned off fuel. Only then would it want to start and we had it going barely and then we lost spark totally.

Snowboundbabe.. Have you checked all fuses and/or circut breakers?.. Do you have a code reader for the engines computer... That where you should start... Here's a link to where you can get one.. Pay particular attention to the "CodeMate <br />EFI Code Reader, part #Part #94008"... http://216.230.203.183/marine/marine.htm <br /><br />Personally, I'd take it in to have it looked about... I mean no offense, but EFI's not something to take lightly.. You may end up doing more harm than good...

You seem smart enough(smarter than 90percent of the guys on this forum) to know this but water in fuel has nothing to do with the ign sys. (spark) are you sure its not firing? How did you clean the injectors? Do you have fuel pressure at the rail? How much? 40 psi minimum can you hear the fuel pump running? Ive seen water in fuel takeout fuel pumps. Is it a merc? cool fuel? Code reader probably wont help water in fuel wont set a code( unless you have a outboard there is a sensor in the bottom of the h20 sep)Ill try to help just cause I called ya a big fat hairy guy...No hard feelings?

Yes, I know water has nothing to do with no spark. That was where we started. Had the same problem on my Blazer. There's plenty of fuel. We're trying a coil today. We pretty much had it figured out by the time we got home. I just like to hear what other people think. Thanks for the link on the code reader. I like to see more than oh my lower unit oil is milky what do I do? on this forum. The confusing part was we had spark at first and then nothing.

Oh and by the way the "dealer" won't touch the boat after just getting their wopping check. Nor will anyone else. We have people calling us for their 10 hour oil change.

Gee, I wish I was smart.<br /><br />$7200 to rebuild a sunken motor? The least the insurance company should have done was find a "dry" motor to put in the thing. Personally, I would have held out for a new boat of equivalent value.<br /><br />Or, maybe the owner is one of the smart ones who did not have insurance?<br /><br />Sorry--couldn't resist. I do value most of the information I get from this board.

Any luck yet? just checking in on you. D..... Actually DDBOATER for $7200. they probably didnt get a rebuilt motor. I dont know for sure but Id bet they just cleaned up there old one. with new starter/alternator/ solenoids etc. fiberglass work???? $$$$$$ Its not hard to do $10,000. worth of repairs on a $30.0000, boat and insurance not totall it.But youre right, If they had gotten a new boat they wouldnt be going thru this now.

Is this a mercruiser? Does this have the thunderbolt ignition? If it is, the module could have died because of the water.
