'02 Honda 130 Serial number mix-matched?????

I purchased two new 2002 130 engines.<br /><br />The serial numbers on the silver plate that are visible (w/o taking hood off) on the starboard side of the engine are BZBH 1300*** series and BZBE 1300***. <br /><br />I was told that these were after the cracked block issue.<br /><br />While doing some minor work on my engine today with the hood off, I noticed serial numbers<br />on the valve cover. I believe this is the name.<br />It stares you right in the face as you look at the tail end of the engine.<br /><br />These serial numbers start with BEBE 1016*** and the other engine has BEBE 1018*** series.<br /><br />I am now concerned and am curious if the engines are mixmatched and the heads may have the crack issue......<br /><br />I purchased them new in April 2002 and was told by a Honda service center that the engines were not subject to the head issue as their serial numbers were in the 130 series.<br /><br />Thoughts?

Engine serial numbers are stamped into the cylinder head visible from the rear of the engine. Product identification numbers are stamped into a tag usually affixed to the engine mounting bracket. Kind of a moot point since neither of the sets of serial numbers you list is in the range of affected units. As a point of interest, I've had my head/block assembly replaced because the original block did develop cracks, and the new one has a serial number in the BEBE* range, another indication that yours are later versions with improved design, hence it seems you needn't worry about the crack 'issue.'

Honda gives every motor a frame number-tag on transom bracket......and an engine number-stamped in block under cowling
