Before i take the boat to the dealer i was wondering if anyone had some advice...

I put the boat into the lake for the first time tonight, and being April, ice out was yesterday on Lake Minnetonka, anyways, i made it a mile from the launch and my temp guage ticked past 250 and the heat warning beep came on. I shut down, let it cool, and restarted, just idleing it went from 150 - 250 in 30 seconds or so. I get back to the launch and checked the obvious, intakes, oil, etc.

Im not very familiar with the cooling systems on boats, but i assume its the water pump that failed, what else could cause something like this?

Also, is there a antisiphon mechanism on the glastrons?

Thanks
Kyle

usually the first place to go look for an overheat condition is the impeller in the lower unit. the seawater pump.

most new boats have a anti shiphone valve.... i think is a uscg reg. that it does....

We need to know what engine and outdrive you have to answer specific engine problems. Type of boat doesn't matter at all for engine and drive problems.

Your raw water pump is mounted on the end of the crankshaft pulley, not to be confused with the engine circulation pump (aka a water pump by automotive types)
The raw water pump is what sucks up the water thru the drive and delivers it to the engine and exhaust system.

I suspect that my raw water pump went bad. Can I tear it down and just replace the impeller or do I have to buy a whole pump??

How do you test the water pump?

Welcome to iboats RC, Best to start a new thread with your question.
It's bad form to hijack someone elses thread with your questions, plus it gets real confusing wondering who is answering who.
