01 GTX DI is sluggish

After sitting for only a day or two we got out on the waverunner and it runs maybe 15 mph max even with throttle on full. It hesitates and, if you're lucky, it will give a quick burst of speed but then slow again. No noises and no indication of problems when when we ran it last. It's got plenty of gas in the tank. Seems like a gas flow problem. Where do I start. I've finally got my Clymer's manual so I'll look through that but any simple suggestions or gotchas are appreciated.

I'm quickly learning that owning waverunners involves getting a second job to pay for repairs or become a mechanic.

being a di it could be a bad fuel pump, but being a sea doo the first thing I would do is check the main battery ground at the starter, if you don't get a good ground your fuel pump and injectors can't work properly so start there and let me know what happens,, see if you can add a second ground up on the exhaust manifold so it doesn't get wet and corroded like the original one always does.

The grounding wires and batter cables looked fine. I went ahead and pulled the plugs and they were in pretty poor shape so I put new ones. That did the trick and we're back in business.

Thanks for the help.

Re: 01 GTX DI is sluggish

Glad to see you found a solution.

This is timely because my 2001 GTX DI did the exact same thing yesterday!!

I looked in the manual and it suggested dirty injectors or plugs needed to be replaced. I have spare plugs, so I will try that and maybe a can of Sea Foam.

Well that did it - just a touch of Sea Foam and a set of new plugs and she runs as good as new!

I was surprised though, the old plugs didn't look too bad to me. I guess I'll by some new ones for the rext replacement. Owners manual says replace every 50 hours - seems kinda often...
