Could someone tell me where the oil pressure sender is on a 2000 Four Winns with 5.0 in it. I realize it's on the block, but I don't know what side it on?? Please let me know, Thanks

It's not on either side, it's on the top/back of the block next to the distributor.

Re: 00' Four Winns 5.0 oil sender??

Well, I got a sender "after going to 2 different auto places". I have a question though. Of course the VOLVO sender was $38 bucks. I ended up getting one from napa for $16. I had to change the wire fitting, but no biggie. My question is, does anyone know what the PSI range is for the stock oil pressure senders? The dealer couldn't tell me. The one I found at NAPA was 0-60PSI which is the usual as far as senders go. However they do make them capable of up to 0-90 PSI. For the money I spent, it's worth a shot. Let me know if you have any idea?????? Thanks.

You have to have a sender that uses the same resistance scale as your oil pressure gauge. They don't go by pressure ranges or cost. They go by ohms.

Re: 00' Four Winns 5.0 oil sender??

Yea I know, unfortunatly the auto places go by pressure. If I would have told them that I need a 50 to 250 Ohm sender they would be lost. That, and the fact that I don't have access to my meter makes this more difficult. I would have just checked it before buying a new one if I could have. That's why I didn't want to spend $40.00. I figure it's worth a shot just trying this one. If it doesn't work I''l just go get the Volvo one. The Problem I'm having is very typical of senders. Plus my gauge is just a Low/High one. It doesnt have any numbers on it. The dealer basicly said that Four Winns has so many problems with their gauges it's difficult to figure out if it's either one? What ever?

The gauge sits dead center from start up, and anything over 3000 Rpms it pegs. It's only a 2000 with just over 100 Hrs on her. We took it out last week for the first time and ran it for a few hours. Everything was great except that.

Re: 00' Four Winns 5.0 oil sender??

Did you Test the Gauge by shorting it out at the sender,..??

I Guess you didn't Meter the original Sender either,......

My 1st Guess would be the Gauge it self,.....It's more apt to have been Wet over the last 7 years.....
Or maybe even a Bad connection in the Cannon Plug..........

I "T"ed the port on mine,+ installed a mechanical Gauge on the motor.........

No like I said I don't have access to my Fluke. The gauge is definitly working. It moves up and down, depending on RPM's. Usually, with this type of gauge it either works ir it's intermittent. I haven't had any other issues with it . Just that it rides high. So I'm going to try this and we'll see what happens. I can chechk it out after next week with a meter so I'm going to hold my breath with the 16bucks I spent. Keep in mind also these Four Winns have a sealed Gauge pod kind of like a car dash board. Not my first choice because if there's an issuse you can't just change the oil pressure gauge. You have to change it all out. Keep you posted.

With a gauge cluster like that, you may not even need a Volvo sender. You need what ever 4Winds decided to use with that cluster. It may be the standard Volvo sender, may be different. Volvo doesn't have any clusters like that. So your guess is good as anyone elses.
Have you contacted a 4Winds dealer?

No, not yet. I'll find out today if what I did worked. We're taking her out today. The sender that's on it is reminiscent of a 1975-80 sending unit off a regular ol' Chevy. And that's what I got to replace it. I keep you guy's posted!

It worked, The NAPA Senders working great. The gauge runs about 3/4 or a little higher on WOT.
