There is no gasket in the parts list for the head cover, only for the head to the block. I am replacing, and the one I had was sealed with some black RTV. Is that the correct process, or should I be looking for some unlisted gasket or?

Check out the chewing on this cylinder head, its why Im replacing it.

What caused the damage to the cylinder head ?----Did you have the motor apart or was the motor repaired years ago.

I have no idea. It was “repaired” by previous owner. Low compression in cyl 3 less than 90psi and a little low in cyl 1. Caused all sorts of problems. Figured it was a head gasket or piston rings. Nope, its this. So i will be getting a new head and head cover, but just want to make sure about sealing the cover

No gasket for the cover....have used Permatex Optimum Grey with good results.....opinions vary on type of RTV to use.

Damage to the power head is due to pre ignition or carb feeding that cylinder is clogged.
I think it is pre ignition.
Clean all carbs and check the timing.

Carbs are freshly rebuilt, also new reed valves. That head, which im replacing, looks like someone shoved a bolt in the cylinder and let the piston go to town lol
