Today while fishing my dog bailed out Of the boat for a swim and when he got
Back in the boat he broke my key offin the ignition...I was able to turn the ignition with a screwdriver to start the boat...my question is can I replace this ignition with like a ignition you would buy at the parts store or do I need to order the original one

i would not buy one from a auto parts store but any marina should have a orginal one or a aftermarket replacement which will work fine

at least they do in indiana

If you can't get the broken piece of key out yourself; then any qualified locksmith can remove it and then carry the pieces to a BRP dealer for a new key; they have what's called a "try ring" with all the keys used and should be able to match you right up. Good Luck.

Or use a dental pick to extract the stub. Then look for a code on the shank of the key right near the head. Or you can check the area around the ignition switch for the code. Or take the rig to an Evinrude dealer and have them use the tryout ring to find the right key. There aren't that many. Then buy two!!! When you get back home beat one of the kids. Don't beat the dog.
